Original child’s sketch used to create a 3D printed model

Turning a Photo or Sketch into a 3D Print | Harle Tech

Turning a Photo or Sketch into a 3D Print – A recent client came to us with a special request: their son had created a sketch, and they wanted to know if it could be turned into a 3D printed model.

We had previously used artificial intelligence to convert a photograph into a 3D model, so we were confident we could explore a similar approach with this sketch. We uploaded the image into the AI tool and waited to see what it would produce.

The result was better than expected. The output was a solid 3D model that looked highly printable and required only minimal adjustment.

Once the file was loaded into the slicer, there were no errors and only minor refinements were needed. In less than two hours, we had transformed a child’s sketch into a printable 3D model.

While this could have been created manually, the process would have taken much longer and increased the cost, making it less practical. Using AI made the workflow faster, more efficient, and more affordable.

This project highlights the growing potential of AI in 3D modelling. Turning a photo or sketch into a 3D Print isn’t fantasy, it opens the door to turning sketches, photographs, and ideas into physical products quickly and with less manual design work.
